Living Brittany - a one hour special

Gouzout muioc'h diwar-benn

A one-hour radio documentary : 'Living Brittany' - about life in Brittany, past and present, partly funded by the Conseil General des Cotes d'Armor, which has been shortlisted for an award by the prestigious annual Celtic Media Festival. The Celtic Media Festival's aim is to promote the languages and cultures of the Celtic nations. The three-day event is held every year in a different country and welcomes delegates from all over the world. In 2012 it will take place in the historic walled city of Derry in Northern Ireland. The three elements of 'Living Brittany' comprise a winter evening's entertainment in an old hunting lodge, where local people gather to celebrate the ancient Gallo traditions of song, storytelling and roasting chestnuts over an open fire; the candlelit vigil of the Grand Pardon de Ste. Anne d'Auray, attended by thousands of pilgrims and where music is provided by the young singers of the Maitrise; and an evocative portrait of the Occupation in Brittany, told through the vivid memories of people in the countryside, who lived through those dark days. Regular listeners to Spotlight on Brittany will no doubt recognise the voices of regular contributors like Elaine Agrell, Marilyn Le Moign, Paul Masters, Richard Flamant, Georges Le Moign and Alan Lucas. The French and Breton links are by Christian and Eric at Radio Kreiz Breizh. The producers of 'Living Brittany', Padraig and Jane Coyle are based in Belfast, but have had a home near Baud in Morbihan for 21 years.
